Add Value to Your Home in Orange
The most important consideration for most homeowners and solar is the impact going solar will have on their home. Prospective solar customers have valid concerns that range from the effect on their home value, finances, to how it impacts the resale value of their house. Research has shown that by going solar, not only will your home sell for more, it will typically sell faster as well. Homes with a solar PV system saw an increase of 3.74% of the average sale price. For homes in Orange County that increase could mean a substantial increase in equity.
Let's say the average home price in Orange County is $600,000. If we factored a 3.74% increase, the resale value of the home would be increased to $622,500. For the average homeowner in Orange, going solar could add $22,500 in resale value. Don't you want a home that costs less to operate?
What if my solar system generates more electricity than my home consumes?
If you generate a surplus in electricity, as a resident of Orange you can carry over unused credit from the end of the month to offset future bills. They enable the customer to choose to be credited as a check annually or receive bill credit monthly. If you choose to receive a check, each remaining kWh of annual unused energy will be valued at the ACC rate of $.0442/kWh in payment.
Even though you have a solar energy system, your power will also be interrupted for the safety of the repair crews who may be working on the power outage. Homeowners, looking to protect themselves against outages and blackouts should consider a battery backup system to gain independence from the grid. With the recent power outages from PG&E and Southern California Edison, homeowners in Orange should consider a solar energy system with a battery backup solution.

The federal solar tax credit is a credit equal to 30% of the total qualified system costs of installing solar PV system. This tax credit can be claimed when you file your taxes. Even if you don't have enough tax liability to claim the full amount in a single year, you have up to three years to claim the total amount of the tax liability. The Federal Solar Tax credit was established as a part of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 to expand the US renewable energy market.
The total amount of the solar tax credit can be calculated fairly easily. The tax credit amount is computed by taking thirty (30) percent of the solar system installation cost. For instance, if your solar energy system costs $25,000 and is installed in 2019, your tax credit would be $25,000 x 30%= $7,000.
2019 marks the last year for the 30% Income Tax Credit for projects that improve the energy efficiency and lower the carbon footprint of residential and commercial buildings. This credit gets smaller with each passing year and is set to level out to 10% starting 2022.
You have to keep in mind that the federal solar tax credit is nonrefundable and is only possible for the owner of the system. Therefore, homeowners that have a PV system through a Solar Lease or Power Purchase Agreement are not eligible for the solar tax credit.
Even with the solar tax credit, one of the biggest obstacles for most homeowners is how they are going to pay for it. As the cost of solar panel manufacturing has dropped, financing accessibility and options have dramatically increased as well. In California, the vast majority of qualified homeowners going solar, never paying upfront to have solar installed. Therefore, it is critical to understand how different financing options from cash, financing, to a Solar Power Purchase Agreement (Solar PPA) can factor into the overall price and features of your Solar PV system.
